Physics
Taught by Sharon Eberly
(grades 11 - 12)
This course provides a detailed introduction to general physics. Course contents include one-dimensional and two-dimensional motion, Newton’s laws, circular motion, gravity, work, energy, momentum, periodic motion, waves, optics, electrostatics, electrodynamics, electrical circuits, and magnetism. The laboratory component will reinforce course content in all topic areas. Interactive computer simulations will provide further experimentation to aid conceptual understanding. The work completed equals one high school lab science credit. An optional honors credit will be offered to students who choose to meet additional course requirements. Please note that Physics classes are 2 hours in length (not 90 minutes). (Class size: 4–10 students)
Cost: Lab Materials Fee, $40
Prerequisite: To succeed in this course, students must have a working understanding of Algebra I and Geometry and be able to manipulate and solve multivariable equations. Students should also know the three basic trigonometric functions (sine, cosine, and tangent) and their inverses, be able to convert units using the metric system, and be comfortable using scientific notation.

World History I:
Ancient History through
the Renaissance
Taught by Ellen Rogers
(grades 8 - 12)
This course will survey world history from ancient times up through the Renaissance. The primary text for this class will be World History (4th ed.). Students will also be required to read and review one biography or work of historical fiction of their own choosing (teacher approved).
Over the course of the year students will research and compile a thematic portfolio or “lapbook,” tracing the historical development of a particular societal or cultural sphere, such as, science, art, music, architecture, religion/philosophy, law, military technology, etc. This project will allow students to focus on a topic of particular interest to them, and to develop an expertise in that area. In addition, it should appeal to visual learners and those desiring a creative outlet for learning. The work completed equals one high school credit. (Class size: 4–10 students)
Prerequisite: None

Physics
Taught by Sharon Eberly
(grades 10 - 12)
This is a college-prep physics course and will meet the requirements of a laboratory science. It is recommended that the student have a strong background in Algebra 1 and have some exposure to trigonometric functions (sine, cosine, and tangent). The following is an excerpt from the Apologia site: “this course provides a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general physics, heavily emphasizing vector analysis; this text is ideal preparation for a university-level physics course. It provides the student with a strong background in one-dimensional and two-dimensional motion, Newton’s laws and their application, gravity, work and energy, momentum, periodic motion, waves, optics, electrostatics, electrodynamics, electrical circuits, and magnetism.” The work completed equals one high school science credit. An “honors” credit will be available to students 9th grade and up after meeting additional requirements. (Class size: 4–12 students)
Cost: Lab Materials Fee, $25
Prerequisite: Algebra I / Basic Trigonometry (see the course description)
