Background / Work Experience
Tom is the son of Ross and Jane Rogers, who established the Tara-Reston Christian School, now known as Tara Learning Center, in 1972. Tom and his wife Ellen first met at McLean Presbyterian Church in 1991 and then were married there in October 1992.
Tom and Ellen Rogers live in Berryville, VA, and are members of Eagle Heights Presbyterian Church (Winchester, VA), where Tom serves as a Deacon and teaches Sunday School to 7th- to 12th-grade students. The Rogers have four children, all now either in college or post-college.
Tom has worked for more than 40 years in the field of publications as an editor, writer, and project coordinator, as well as an Associate Director for Publications for a nonprofit medical association, producing (primarily) scholarly books and research journals in science and medicine.
Tom has a tremendous appreciation for classic literature—particularly the great works of children’s literature—because he believes that learning to enjoy and appreciate great books is crucial to learning to write well. Anyone who can learn to write simply and clearly, as the finest children’s authors do, can learn to write just about anything well.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)
